Action in Autism Multimedia Schools' Competition: My Life with Autism

Are you aware of the rights of children with disability? Do you know that there are many children with autism sitting at home with no access to an education? We invite you to participate in this exciting multi media competition based on autism spectrum disorders.
ACTION IN AUTISM is a non profit organization established to act as a lobbyist, support and fundraising body for the parents of children diagnosed with autism. The central focus of this organization is to improve the quality of life for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their caregivers by building partnerships between people with ASD, their families and the community to provide information, services, learning and research. Autism is a lifelong condition that impacts on all areas of communication and social interaction. People with autism can also feel their senses very strongly for e.g. have very sensitive hearing or have detailed visual perception. Some also have amazing talents for e.g. the ability to draw very well. People with autism with the right educational support can and have made an incredible impact/contribution to society.
To enter this competition, imagine you are a child with autistic spectrum disorder. Do your research, then describe/depict/explain the world of autism. The project can be delivered in any format: for example a 3D display, an essay, a rap song, a poem, a story, a video tape, etc.
Competition Guidelines
- This competition is open to all grade 9, 10 & 11 learners at secondary schools in the Durban Region of KwaZulu-Natal.
- The competition deadline is 30 April 2013. Late entries will not be considered.
- To enter, learners may deliver the project in any medium, for example a 3D display, an essay, a rap song, a poem, a story, a video tape etc.
- Work submitted must be original based on reading and references of the condition autism spectrum disorder. Any references used in the project must be properly acknowledged. Plagiarism will result in the project being disqualified in the competition.
- Please ensure all your contact details, including address, telephone numbers and the school’s address and telephone number is included in your entry. Entry form supplied.
- The winner will receive the following: an iPad and a R1000 book voucher for the school.
- Entrants must agree to have their name and photograph published in any print and electronic media in South Africa. In addition they maybe interviewed on radio or TV.
- The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the judge’s decision.
